Be Proud

I know it has really been a while since I have last blogged. I actually keep a list of the things I want to blog about but I end up not being able to do so. But there was something that bothered me so much that had prompted me to do this one blog.

Few days ago, I shared something in my Facebook page that is an article published in The Philippine Daily Inquirer, a newspaper here in the Philippines. The title is "Love Letter to Filipinos". The writer is an American expatriate worker who appreciates not only the country, but Filipinos as a whole. It was an uplifting experience for me having read that article. It was an honest and unbiased article that I really wish every Filipino would be able to read. Here is a link for the article: http://opinion.inquirer.net/47047/love-letter-to-filipinos

To tell you frankly, I have never believed in the Philippines when I was younger. I always thought that there was not a good reason for my family to stay here. I thought it would be so much better if I have been born in other developed countries. However, by the time I went to college, I have learned to love my country. I do not remember how, but I did. I do love the Philippines so much now, and I would like to commend my professors in the university for that.

Also a few days ago, my friend messaged me on Facebook. He is an elementary friend who, after graduating from elementary, went to the United States and lived there since. I asked about his plans after graduation, and since he is already working for a big company there, he just wish to continue that then maybe study again after some time. When he asked me about mine, I said I just want to find a job here after I take a little vacation. He then went on to convince me to go in the US because, according to him, life here is not so good. In his viewpoint, it is chaotic here in the Philippines. I can't blame him though, for thinking that. I see that there are so much improvements that need to be made in this country. Corruption is one.

However, the thought of having a Filipino say that to his country saddens me. How can a foreigner appreciate this country more than a Filipino can? It really is sad. I have not been so good in expressing how proud I am to be a Filipino, but I have embraced that thought a lot. I wonder if Filipinos in other countries feel the same way. Do they miss the Philippines? Or do they think this is hell?

I want to make every Filipino believe that this country is worth dying for. Who would believe in this country if we, ourselves, won't? Be proud. Challenge yourself to find at least one good reason to stay in this country, by then, I guess you will be able to list down so much.
